Can Chiropractors Help Out with Sports-Related Injuries?

Part of being an athlete is being exposed to rigorous workouts, a strict training schedule, and potential injury. No matter if you currently participate in sports or did at one point in the past, your body can still have taken a beating. The best way to prevent injuries and recover from strains put on the body is to see a chiropractor from South Florida Spine and Joint Center. The chiropractor’s job is to treat and help prevent injuries of the neck, back, shoulder, knee, and ankle. We do this through adjustment of the spine and by making sure it is properly aligned by using a hands-on approach. The point of the alignment is to ensure the bones are where they are supposed to be, which can prevent any unnecessary muscle tension throughout the body. This kind of muscle tension is common especially among athletes who put tremendous amounts of pressure on their bodies. While this is unavoidable, it’s important to keep in mind that the less of it there is, the less likely it is for an injury to occur.

Why Do Athletes Need Chiropractors?

Athletes suffer from sports injuries because of all of the pressure they regularly put on their bodies. Whether you are a football player and are constantly being knocked to the ground or a cheerleader who is constantly doing flips, you are doing a lot with your body. This movement is bound to turn in an alignment issue at some point. And while this issue isn’t the worst thing to deal with, it should eventually be treated and checked out by a chiropractor. If you are an athlete and have already suffered from an injury, whether current or past, we can help you out with that as well. Our services can help the healing process and get your body back to where it was before. We even recommend going in to see us after a big game or competition, this way you can stay on top of your body and its performance.

What Will My Appointment Look Like?

We often get asked what the routine of our appointment will look like. First things first we are going to ask you some general questions about your health. This will be about medical history, past injuries, and any current concerns. Once all the information is collected we will perform a structural exam of your spine, ligaments, joints, balance, and posture. This exam helps us get a better idea of how we can help you. More likely than not you are going to need a spinal mobilization or spinal manipulation treatment. These are the two most common kinds of treatments and can help out with injuries. During your spinal manipulation treatment, your South Florida Spine and Joint Center chiropractor will do a hands-on approach to release any kind of built-up pressure your body is holding onto. The pressure can be harmful to you over time, causing different kinds of pain if not released. During your spinal mobilization treatment, you are going to be doing stretches that will release all built-up pressure. We may also use electric stimulation, ice, or heat to help with any pain or pressure you are feeling. However, this is all up to you and will be discussed beforehand.

If you have been injured in the past or are currently injured, then chiropractor service can prove to be very beneficial for you. Chances are if you are an athlete you are in a rush to heal and get back out there, but the last thing you want to do is prematurely get back into the game only to injure yourself again. To prevent that from happening, going to a chiropractor can ensure you are fully healed and ready to go. Our team will work with you to determine what the best method of treatment is and how it can help out your game performance when you get back out there. Or, if you aren’t injured and just want to fine-tune your body to prevent injury, we can help with that as well.
