What Kinds of Chiropractic Treatment Options Do You Have?

The idea of getting a spinal adjustment either sounds relaxing or terrifying to people. Some cannot wait to get their back cracked and rearranged, while others are hesitant and fear the worst. Whatever side of the coin you are on, it’s vital to know that a chiropractor has other forms of treatment besides adjustments. Adjustments remain one of the more well-known and utilized treatment methods, but there are many others used as well. Some treatment plans include more than one treatment method, too. But, it all depends on every unique situation. If you have been avoiding the chiropractor out of fear of an adjustment, it’s time to reconsider. At Spine and Joint Center, our chiropractors in Fort Lauderdale are here to help you. Whatever your concerns are about treatment, we will be sure to listen and find the ideal treatment plan for you. If you are curious about what other kinds of treatment forms there are, keep reading. We explain some of the different ways you can find relief.

Therapeutic Stretching

Some kinds of pain may require a spinal adjustment; however, chiropractors can also treat those with pain that does not involve the neck, back, and spine. From leg pain to knee pain, we can assist with much more. For other kinds of pain, the treatment program is usually a little bit different. One method we like to use is therapeutic stretching. This kind of stretching benefits patients in more ways than one. For starters, you may have mobility or tightness in some areas after an injury. Regular stretching, the correct way, can increase movement and help reduce any tightness in the area. After an injury, you cannot just jump back into your everyday routine and exercise; it’s going to take some easing into things. That’s where the stretching comes into play. Therapeutic stretching also assists in preventing scar tissue. The more stiff your body is after injury, the more likely scar tissue is going to form. With increased stretching, you are keeping up flexibility and avoiding scar tissue build-up.

Spinal Traction

For those who have spinal related issues but do not want a spinal adjustment, this is for you. Chiropractors assist those with spine issues and pain by performing spinal traction. However, we don’t perform as much as having a device to help you. When you come into our office, we apply a spinal traction device to you.  The spinal traction device will help with disc decompression by pulling apart the vertebrae. It may sound aggressive, but trust us, the machine is very gentle. You will not feel any sort of pain. If anything, you will feel less pain and pressure around the spine and back area.

Therapeutic Exercise

People tend to compare their chiropractor in Fort Lauderdale to massage therapists more than anything. However, a trainer is a more accurate comparison. Your chiropractor is not going to help you in all of the ways a personal trainer might, but they can help with therapeutic exercise. People with back and neck pain don’t always need spinal adjustments. Sometimes they need to strengthen some muscle groups. Our patients don’t need to strive to be the hulk, but adding some muscle into certain areas can help in many ways. For instance, strengthening can improve range of motion, decrease pain, increase stability, prevent the muscle groups from deteriorating, and more. Exercise may seem like it can do more harm than good, but not the workouts your chiropractor is going to recommend. These exercises are here to help you. Don’t worry if you think you are going to perform them wrong. Our team will supervise until we are confident you know what you are doing.
